Book List

In an attempt to motivate myself to get through my amazingly large pile of unread books (I keep buying them faster than I can read them) I'm going to keep a book list here. I'd start from the beginning of 2009, but I honestly can't remember everything I've read this year. Sadly, it's probably not that much because of having SO much to read for school.

If you are intrigued by any of these books, I encourage you to click the links and consider purchasing them through amazon. The links on this page (and throughout my blog) are routed through my amazon associates account. I will receive a percentage of any purchases you make through amazon using my links. Proceeds will likely go to purchasing more books!

Rating System

- Excellent book. Would recommend this book to ANYONE!
- Really good book. Would recommend this book to most.
- Decent book. Would recommend possibly recommend it.
- Not so great. Probably would not recommend it
- Not good. At all. Do not read it.

Book List

March 2010
The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf
Ahh this was good. I devoured it. The characters were well developed and interesting. The plot was suspenseful and flowed well. (The major necessities, for me.) I definitely didn't expect the ending, but it was not some ridiculous, unbelievable plot twist.
I love anything psychological and mysterious lately. If you like that sort of thing, you'd probably like this book.

February 2010
A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks
Can I just say that this was an amazing book?? I just love Nicholas Sparks. Romantic without too much sap or too much sex. This one also had a dash of mystery, which I just loved. Good story, good characters, good ending. No complaints from me. :)

January 2010
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

I bought this book for my Dad for Christmas. Seemed like something he would enjoy. I read Krakauer's book Into Thin Air for a college composition class and LOVED it, so I figured the wilderness survival theme paired with good writing would be a hit. I was right. My dad finished it in about a day and urged me to read it as well. So I did. I didn't think I'd like it. The whole Alaska/Survival/Wilderness theme isn't my favorite, but this book was great. It's more than just the story of a kid who went off into the woods to live off the land. It delves into the psychological aspects of why he did what he did. That's what drew me into. You end up really sympathizing with this guy and understand why he did what he did even if you don't agree with what he did or why.
I rented the movie on Netflix.... but I fell asleep before the end. (I suck) Danny, however, loved it. He's usually incredibly cynical and I figured he would take the main character for a clueless moron and complain the entire type. But I was wrong. He liked it. If we BOTH like something, it's got to be good.

September 2009-December 2009
Okay guys, not gonna lie. Did not do much reading over the semester. It seriously kicked my butt. I read ONE book... Sorry. :(
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
Several people told me that I NEEDED to read these books. "If you like Twilight, you'll LOVE Sookie Stackhouse!". False. I dont hate it... but I dont love it. However, Im still reading the second one. Not getting into it much at all though... Sadly.

August 2009
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
My thoughts: Sarah Dessen is my favorite author, there's no question, buuuut I was pretty disappointed with this book. It's good, but not THAT good. Usually, I fall in love Sarah's male characters. They're usually go deep and likable... but I didn't get that with Eli. He was just... blah. And not even THAT important, it seemed. It's like... the male character could be ANY guy in this story and it wouldn't matter. That's not how her other stories are. In other books, the story only works if it's Dexter, or Wes, or Sumner. They're such strong and memorable characters. Eli isn't like that. Eli could be anyone. He's forgettable. And that makes me sad.
However, it's Sarah Dessen, so you should read it.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

Someone told me when I finished Handle with Care that Jodi Picoult's books all have similar endings. This is true. And I don't particularly like it, but I do like her stories.
This particular ending... I, uhm... may or may not have already known about from accidentally reading it on Wikipedia. However, I've heard that the book ending and the movie ending are quite different, so I guess I was hoping Id read the movie ending and this would be different.
The fact that the ending was a) a WTF ending like the previous book I've read, and b) spoiled for me, I still really liked this book.
But no, I did not cry.

July 2009
Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult
My thoughts: Great story but I HATED the ending. Possibly one of the worst endings I've ever read, which is really too bad.

Angels Watching Over Me by Lurene McDaniels
My thoughts: Very quick read, finished this in one night. Probably because it is far below my normal reading level (which is, sadly, young adult) I would say that this book is meant for middle schoolers. However, that does not keep it from being a really great story.
